The third leg of the 2025 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) saw the long-running tour head to the poker hotbed that is Luton. The tables have been packed away, the lights turned off, and all payouts made. GUKPT regular and all-round crusher Calogero Morreale claimed the largest prize of the GUKPT Luton festival after taking down the £1,250 Main Event for £56,720 and his second GUKPT Main Event title.

Morreale was one of 284 entrants in the £1,250 GUKPT Luton Main Event. Those entrants created a £296,770 prize pool, which the top 38 finishers shared. John Kelly, Matthew Davenport, Joe Hindry, Yucel "Mad Turk" Eminoglu, Vikrum Mehta, and Jack Allen were among those who finished in the money place, the latter popping the final table bubble.

Keith Littlewood's latest deep GUKPT run ended in a ninth-place finish. Littlewood committed the last of his chips on the flop with a flush draw, which ultimately bricked, against Vadims Veksins' top pair.

Tommy Bingham was the next to bust. Bingham got his stack in with pocket kings on a six-high flop against Zhicheng Miao's myriad of draws. Miao turned a flush to leave Bingham drawing dead.

Seventh place went to Veksins, who lost most of his stack when Seb Jung's ace-jack cracked his pocket queens. Try as he may, Veksins couldn't spin it up and had to make do with a £10,240 career-best score instead.

The final six became five with the untimely demise of Mitch Johnson. After the action folded to Johnson in the small blind, he jammed for 8.5 big blinds with queen-seven. Jung called in the big blind with queen-eight, and flopped an eight to send Johnson home.

Johnson's close friend, Andrew "stato_1" Hulme, was the next to be relieved of his stack. Hulme's last 14 big blinds went into the middle with king-jack, which was flipping against Miao's pocket sixes. Miao flopped a set and it was curtains for the popular Hulme.

Fourth place was decided when Hussni Alkhuzai found himself all-in with jack-nine against Morreale's ace-ten for his last 10 big blinds. Alkhuzai looked set for a timely double-up when he spiked a jack on the flop, but Morreale rivered a straight to send him to the cashier's desk. Alkhuzai banked £23,590, the largest haul of his career so far.

Heads-up was set when Jung fired his last 12 big blinds over the betting line while holding ace-four. Miao called and, unfortunately for Jung, turned over the dominating ace-jack. Jung couldn't find a four, and he bowed out in third place for yet another five-figure GUKPT score, namely £31,430.

Only a single 5,000 denomination chip separated Miao and Morreale at the start of heads-up play. A near two-hour one-on-one battle ensued, ending with Miao getting his 18 big blind stack in with pocket sevens against Morreale's ace-eight. An eight on the flop won the pot and the tournament for Morreale, and left Miao with his second GUKPT Main Event runner-up finish, having finished second in Blackpool in November 2024.

Morreale's victory is the latest in a long line of wins on the GUKPT, and his second in a Main Event. The Italian triumphed in the £1,250 GUKPT Manchester Main Event in February 2023 and now has a second Main Event title. You get the feeling it is a case of when, not if, he will complete his hat-trick.

Morreale aside, Ravi Sheth received the largest prize, £35,400, after winning back-to-back GUKPT Luton High Roller events. However, it was Jack Hardcastle's win in the £560 GUKPT Cup that was arguably the most popular. Hardcastle outlasted 122 opponents to snag his first live win since he triumphed in the 2022 GUKPT Grand Final High Roller. Hardcastle, a popular figure on the live circuit, has cashed dozens of times since that Grand Final win, but another victory had eluded him until now.
