Light stimulates cones, which are specialized cells in the eye that detect various light wavelengths & convert them into color signals that are transmitted to the brain. Following processing of these signals by the brain, which takes into account individual differences in perception as well as ambient colors & lighting, the signals are then translated into specific colors. Environmental and cultural influences can also have an impact on how we perceive color. For instance, different cultural connotations may be attached to different colors, resulting in differences in perception and interpretation.
