Discarding high-point cards early in the game if they don't add to your current melds is a good tactic. If your opponent goes out before you, high-point cards can be harmful because they will significantly reduce your score. You reduce your risk & maintain a leaner, easier-to-manage hand by eliminating these cards early on.
